Another Thanksgiving has come and gone. I am intrigued by everyone's food pictures on social media. So many people eating the same things! I did notice however, that no one else seemed to eat macaroni and cheese. My moma's homemade macaroni and cheese is a Thanksgiving staple in my family. If she ever decided not to make it, my cousins would experience great despair. Anyone else eat macaroni? Or have another dish that seems odd no one else eats?
As with every year, I hauled a couple of dishes out to one of my aunts' house in the country, where I was met with a full house of people and tables full of food. It really is a reminder of how blessed we are, although I hope I am aware of that every day of the year. We said a prayer of Thanksgiving, piled our plates high, stuffed ourselves silly, sat around drinking sweet tea and talking until we felt like dessert, then broke out the sale papers to plot our Black Friday assault plan.
Let me be the first to say I think it's absurd that we make retail workers work on Thanksgiving day so we can start shopping a few hours earlier. I'm not saying I've never wandered to Walmart on Thanksgiving night, but with the start times getting pushed back earlier and earlier, it is getting ridiculous. So yesterday on Thanksgiving, I came home, got under a blanket on my couch, and shopped online! Today on the actual Black Friday date, I'm going to do some shopping, though not early so I'm really just hitting the weekend long sales. I expect I'll still get plenty of good deals, but I didn't support Black Thanksgiving (is that a phrase yet?) and I got plenty of sleep. (I needed it to sleep off all that food! I had some weird dreams...)
Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for a lunch of leftover potatoes and pumpkin pie before I hit the stores with the rest of the crazy people! What are your Black Friday plans?
